港口和城市有着十分密切的关系。自有人类以来，人们就利用天然河流，创造出一代一代的人类文明。世界发展到今天的时代，港口如何依托城市现有的经济、技术条件，达到自我完善、自我发展，而城市经济又怎样利用港口门户走向世界，港为城用，城以港兴，应该是我们在世界经济新的挑战面前所要研究的主要课题。

There is close tie between the port and the city.Since remote Antiquity，man has made use of rivers to create one civilization after another。In the contemporary world，to meet the new challenqes of the global economy，we must study these topics：How can a port develop towards perfection by relyingon the city’s economy and technology？How Can the urban economy，by taking advantage of the port，be linked up with the external world？How can the port serve the city and how can the City thrive on the port？
